The Technique

A chart of stars set in twelve palaces.

Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗数) reads a life from the stars gathered around the palace the chart is built on. It is a system of archetypes and of domains: which star rules the chart, where the rest of them fall, and how the twelve palaces they sit in divide a life into the parts it is actually lived in.

  • The system itself: what Purple Star Astrology is, and what it sees that a BaZi chart does not.
  • The birth data and lunar calendar behind the chart, and the Life Palace (命宫) the Emperor star is found in.
  • The fourteen main stars in their families — leaders, thinkers, romantics, warriors — and what each archetype means.
  • The twelve palaces as a life's domains, and the Da Xian (大限) decades each one is read across.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is Zi Wei Dou Shu?

Zi Wei Dou Shu (紫微斗数) — Purple Star Astrology — is often called the king of Chinese astrology. While BaZi reads the elements of your destiny, ZWDS maps the stars across 12 palaces of life: career, wealth, relationships, health, parents, children, travel, and more.

  • Do I need to know BaZi, or be able to construct a chart?

No. This course is the no-prerequisites entry point: you'll understand the system, find your ruling star, and see what ZWDS can reveal, without needing to construct a chart yourself.

  • What will I walk away with?

A plain-English definition of the system; your own Emperor / ruling star archetype from the 14 main stars; a tour of the 12 palaces; a first look at Da Xian (大限); and a clear comparison of ZWDS with BaZi and Western astrology.

  • How does this course sit beside the ZWDS Masterclass?

This intro is the gentle doorway in. To actually construct and read a ZWDS chart — main and minor stars, Si Hua transformations, palace-by-palace analysis, luck periods, annual forecasting, client consultations — that's the ZWDS Masterclass.
