The System

What is Qi Men Dun Jia? The Chart of the Moment

Qi Men Dun Jia 奇门遁甲 reads a moment rather than a life. Ask your question — a launch, a negotiation, a move — and the chart is cast for the time you asked it. Nine sectors (九宫) carry the eight Gates (八门), the nine Stars (九星) and the eight Gods (八神), each with its own element and its own meaning, and the answer is read from where they land.

  • Nine sectors: eight palaces around a centre, one for each direction.
  • Each palace holds the Gate and the Star whose home it is — 休门 and 天蓬 in 坎, and so on.
  • The eight Gods follow the Chief (值符) clockwise, wherever in the chart it lands.

If you have ever dipped a toe into Chinese metaphysics — or even just skimmed an annual zodiac forecast — I am glad you are here. The world of Chinese metaphysics is fascinating, but it can also be confusing: an industry largely unregulated, full of conflicting information, and often focused on profit over clarity.
