  • The Ascendant and its ruler — the election itself, and the vitality of the undertaking.
  • The Moon, the co-significator of every election: waxing for a beginning, never void of course, applying to a benefic.
  • The benefics, the malefics and sect, and the conditions under which a malefic can be worked with rather than avoided.
  • What vetoes a moment outright — retrogrades and combustion, void of course, the fixed stars and special degrees — and how to rank what is left.

An elected chart: the twelve signs, the twelve houses and six bodiesAn electional chart: the sky of a chosen moment, drawn as the wheel the course teaches. The outer ring carries the twelve signs from Aries, each in the colour of its element, and the inner ring the twelve houses, with the first house — the Ascendant's own, at 14 degrees Taurus — tinted and numbered in gold. In whole-sign houses, each sign is one house. Six bodies are placed in their signs and houses: Venus, the chart's ruler, in Taurus in the first; the Moon in Cancer in the third; Mercury and the true node in Aquarius in the tenth; Mars in Pisces in the eleventh; Jupiter in Virgo in the fifth; and Saturn in Aries in the twelfth. Inside the wheel the Moon's two applications are drawn: a sextile to Jupiter, and the square to Saturn that the lesson calls a caution. An elected moment · 7 March 2028, MelbourneAsc 14°39' Taurus♈♉♊♋♌♍♎♏♐♑♒♓123456789101112ASCDSC♀☽☿♂♃♄☊♀VenusTaurus1st☽MoonCancer3rd☿MercuryAquarius10th♂MarsPisces11th♃JupiterVirgo5th♄SaturnAries12th☊True NodeAquarius10thsextile · Moon–Jupitersquare · Moon–Saturn

The Technique

An election is a chart you choose.

Electional astrology reverses the usual direction: nothing has begun yet, so the moment is chosen first and the action starts inside it. That choosing is a technique with a hierarchy, and it is read on the same wheel every other branch of astrology uses — cast for a moment that has not happened yet.

  • The Ascendant and its ruler first: the course's priority one, the ruler direct and not combust.
  • The Moon, waxing, dignified, and applying to a benefic — and never void of course.
  • What vetoes a moment outright, and how the moments that survive the vetoes are ranked.
  • Real constraints: what to trade when the ideal moment does not exist, and what to disclose about the flaws that remain.

The Problem

There are good hours and there are bad ones.

Every important beginning is a decision about time: the day of a wedding, the morning of a launch, the hour of an operation, the week a contract is signed. Most of it is chosen by convenience — a weekend, a venue's availability, a surgeon's list — and then the outcome is attributed to luck. The tradition did something else. It read the sky for the moment itself, refused to begin under a Moon that could not carry the matter, and called the result a choosing: electio. That is a technique with rules and a hierarchy, and it can be learned.

  • The Ascendant is the election

The rising sign describes the character of the beginning and its ruler the vitality of the undertaking. The course makes it priority one: the ruler must be direct and not combust, whatever else is true of the moment.

  • The Moon times the matter

The co-significator of every election: waxing for a beginning, dignified, not void of course, and applying to a benefic. Its first application is the trajectory the matter will take.

  • The teams that help

The day team and the night team — Jupiter and Saturn by day, Venus and Mars by night, with Mercury joining whichever it is in — and why a malefic in its own sect is a different proposition from one that is not.

  • What vetoes a moment

A void-of-course Moon is the single most cited disqualifier in the tradition, and the course treats it as fatal to the matter. Retrogrades, combustion, a malefic on the Ascendant and the fixed stars rule out the rest.

  • Real constraints

A wedding has a venue and an operation has a theatre list. The course calls election an art of optimization under constraints, not an art of perfection — and teaches what to trade when the ideal moment does not exist.

  • The chart it serves

An election does not replace a birth chart and cannot override one. The course closes the loop: reading the election against the natal chart of the person it is for, and tailoring the moment to the life it begins.

Common Questions

Before you elect anything.

  • What is electional astrology?

The branch of the tradition that chooses a time rather than reading one. In a natal reading the chart already exists; in an election nothing has begun yet, so the moment is selected first and the action starts inside it. The course's own phrase for the work is the one worth keeping: the practitioner becomes an architect of time.

  • What makes a moment good?

The course ranks the factors and works down them: the Ascendant and its ruler first, then the Moon, then the ruler of the house that governs the matter, then the benefics on the angles and the malefics off them. It states the minimum a moment must satisfy before anything else is considered — the Ascendant's ruler direct and not combust, the Moon not void of course, no malefic on the Ascendant — and then teaches the judgement calls that follow, because the minimum is where the work starts rather than where it ends.

  • What disqualifies a moment?

A void-of-course Moon above all: a Moon that makes no further applying aspect before it leaves its sign, which the tradition reads as nothing coming of the matter. With it, a retrograde or combust Ascendant ruler, a malefic conjunct the Ascendant, and the fixed stars and special degrees the tradition rules out.

  • Does an election guarantee the outcome?

No, and the course says so from its first module: elections improve conditions, they do not guarantee outcomes. An election cannot rescue a plan that will not work, and it cannot override the natal chart of the person it is for. What it does is place a beginning under the best conditions available — the work of a timing consultant, not of a prophet.

  • Do I need to have studied astrology before?

The course builds election from its own foundations and shows the natal reading where an election needs one, so the ground it stands on is covered as it goes. If you have studied natal or horary astrology you will recognise its premise immediately, because you already know that the moment something begins carries a signature.

  • How is the course delivered?

Entirely online, on this academy, in written lessons and fully self-paced: no deadlines, no scheduled classes to keep, and no app to install. Lifetime access is included.
