Western Astrology · Level 2 — Intermediate

Beyond the Basics. Into the Architecture.

The intermediate Western natal astrology course — for students who already know what a Sun sign is, and are ready to read a chart the way a practitioner actually does.

12 modules72 lessonsLifetime access

  • Aspect patterns — the Grand Trine, T-Square, Grand Cross, Yod and stellium — and what they bind together.
  • Classical dignity: domicile, exaltation, detriment, fall, triplicity, term and face, and whether a planet can deliver.
  • The Ascendant and chart ruler in depth, the Moon in depth, retrogrades, rulerships and dispositors.
  • The Lunar Nodes and Chiron, and relationship charts read properly: synastry and the composite.

Assumes a working knowledge of planets, signs, houses and the Ascendant — Level 1 (Foundations of Natal Astrology), or equivalent · Level 3 (Advanced Natal Techniques) comes next

A natal chart wheel: the twelve houses, the twelve signs and seven planetsA birth chart drawn as the wheel the course teaches. The outer ring carries the twelve signs from Aries, each in the colour of its element; the inner ring carries the twelve houses, numbered one to twelve from the Ascendant, with the four angular houses — the first, fourth, seventh and tenth, which begin at the Ascendant, the Imum Coeli, the Descendant and the Midheaven — tinted and numbered in gold. Seven bodies are placed in their signs and houses: the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Inside the wheel, three of the five major aspects are drawn: the Sun conjunct Mars, the Moon square Jupiter, and Jupiter trine Saturn.A natal chart · 8 April 1994, 2:15 pm, AustinAsc 1° Leo · MC 14° Aries♈♉♊♋♌♍♎♏♐♑♒♓123456789101112ASCDSCMCIC☉☽☿♀♂♃♄☉SunAries10th☽MoonLeo2nd☿MercuryAries9th♀VenusPisces9th♂MarsAries10th♃JupiterScorpio5th♄SaturnPisces9thtrine · Jupiter–Saturnsquare · Moon–Jupiterconjunction · Sun–Mars

The Technique

The chart as an architecture.

A deeper reading stops listing placements and starts reading structure: which planet has the dignity to act, who disposes of whom, what the aspect patterns hold together, and how the whole chart answers the question a client actually asked.

  • Essential and accidental dignity, reception and dispositorship.
  • Aspect patterns — the T-square, the grand trine, the yod — read as structures rather than shapes.
  • Retrogrades, the Lunar Nodes and Chiron, and what each one asks of a reading.
  • Synastry and the composite chart: two charts read as one relationship.

The Gap

You know the parts. Now learn how the chart breathes.

After Foundations, most students hit the same wall. They can identify a Sun in Leo or a Saturn in the 7th — but a chart is more than a list. It is a living system of dignity, dispositorship, aspect and pattern. This course is the bridge from identifying parts to reading the whole.

  • Aspect patterns

The Grand Trine, T-Square, Grand Cross, Yod and stellium — patterns that bind several planets into one dynamic and reshape the whole chart.

  • Classical dignity

Domicile, exaltation, detriment, fall, triplicity, term and face — the traditional system that tells you whether a planet can deliver on its promise.

  • The Lunar Nodes

The axis of direction — North and South Node by sign, house, ruler and aspect, and the eclipses that activate them.

  • Synastry and composite

Two charts meet. How they overlay, what aspects they form, and what the composite midpoint chart says about the relationship as its own entity.

Your Instructor

A decade of practice. Distilled into method.

I have spent over a decade dismantling the barrier between "ancient wisdom" and "modern logic." Since 2014 I have practiced metaphysics professionally, building a reputation for technical precision in BaZi, Zi Wei Dou Shu, Qi Men Dun Jia, and Western natal astrology.

This intermediate course exists because too many students finish their first astrology class with the right vocabulary and the wrong instincts. They can name what is in a chart, but they cannot yet read it. Deepening Your Practice is the missing layer — the one that turns a vocabulary into a fluent language.

By the end you will not only understand aspect patterns and dignity tables — you will use them to interpret real charts with confidence, and know exactly why each judgement holds.

Common Questions

Before you commit.

  • Do I need to have taken Foundations of Natal Astrology first?

Strongly recommended, but not strictly required. You need to be comfortable with the planets, the twelve signs, the twelve houses, the Ascendant and basic aspects. If those are second nature — from Level 1 or equivalent self-study — you will be fine. If not, start with Level 1.

  • How is this different from Foundations?

Foundations teaches you what each part of a chart is. Deepening Your Practice teaches you how the parts interact — through aspect patterns, dignity, dispositorship, retrogrades, the Lunar Nodes, and finally synastry and composite charts. Level 1 builds the vocabulary; Level 2 turns it into fluent reading.

  • Will this course teach me transits and predictive astrology?

No. Predictive techniques — transits, progressions, returns and profections — are the focus of Level 3, Advanced Natal Techniques. Level 2 is dedicated to deepening your reading of the natal chart itself, plus relationship charts. One technique at a time, taught properly.

  • How long is the course?

It is a substantial written course: a focused student can complete it in six to ten weeks, and a casual student in three to four months. There is no deadline — you have lifetime access.

  • What comes after this course?

Level 3 — Advanced Natal Techniques: transits, secondary progressions, solar arc directions, solar returns, eclipses, the Hellenistic time lords (annual profections and zodiacal releasing), and full predictive synthesis. Students who complete Level 2 are positioned to step directly into it.

  • I have read books on synastry and dignity already. Is this still worth it?

Almost certainly. Books teach concepts in isolation; this course teaches them as a working system, in the order they actually matter, with the logic that connects them. Most students who arrive well-read leave saying it was the first time it all clicked into place.
