The Problem

A chart describes. It rarely dates.

Ask an astrologer when you will meet someone and you will usually get a description of the kind of person you are drawn to — which is a reading of the chart, not an answer to the question. The tradition has always done better than that. It timed marriages for centuries with primary directions, profections and the Venus cycle, and the techniques are still here. What is missing from most modern practice is the discipline of applying them: knowing which clock to read, how many witnesses a judgement needs, and when to say the chart is silent. That discipline is this course.

  • The timer

    Venus is the significator of love and the fastest of the seven to return to her own place. Her synodic cycle — and the eight-year return that closes it — is the tradition's own clock for love, and the first this course teaches you to read.

  • The slow clock

    Secondary progressions move a day for a year, and the progressed Moon crosses a house in about two and a half years. Read through the relationship houses, it times the chapters of a love life — arrival, settling, strain, release.

  • The year

    A solar return is one year's chart, and its seventh house is that year's marriage and partnership. Read with the annual profection's year lord and its triplicity lords, it is the most practical tool in the course.

  • The chapter

    Zodiacal releasing and firdaria divide a life into periods, and they are what the tradition used to say when a whole chapter of love begins or closes. Slower than a transit and far harder to argue with.

Common Questions

Before you time a relationship.

  • Do I need the natal levels first?

    You need to read a natal chart: signs, houses, aspects, the angles and the chart ruler. That is Foundations of Natal Astrology (Level 1). You do not need Level 3, and you do not need the synastry and composite work from Level 2 — this course assumes a chart you can already read and teaches the timing on top of it.

  • How is this different from Level 2's synastry and composite lessons?

    Those lessons teach what a relationship is: two charts compared, and the chart of the relationship itself. This course teaches when something happens to it. Transits to Venus and the seventh, the Venus cycle, the progressed Moon, the solar return and the time-lord systems. Where a technique genuinely needs the composite chart, the course uses it — but it does not re-teach composite interpretation.

  • How is this different from the Horary Masterclass?

    Horary answers a question you ask now, from a chart cast for the moment of asking — will they come back, is my partner faithful. This course works from the natal chart you already have and times the life it describes. They are different instruments for different questions, and the course says plainly which is which.

  • Will it tell me the date I will get married?

    No — and you should distrust anything that does. A timing reading shows when the chart's own promise is under pressure or support: the windows in which an event of that kind is likely, and which year carries the most witnesses. It cannot name a day, and it cannot decide what a person does inside the window. The course is explicit about the difference, and about the ethics of predicting about someone who has not asked.

  • When does the course open?
